A remake of the classic 80s show airs tonight :

The old one was pretty cool and the new one doesn't look too bad from the trailer.

The LA Times gave it a great review. The Chicago Tribune also praised the remake and had an alternative take on the story : "... it's also a barbed commentary on Obamamania that will infuriate the president's supporters and delight his detractors".

The original series' theme was something of a commentary on fascism.
I recall watching the original as a kid, even back then the "Naziness" of the visitors who had the majority of earth's population swooning was obvious. The old series was full with sub-themes of betrayal between friends and family members, the analogous youth leagues set up by the visitors, the resistance of every-day people forced into a life of underground survival and guerilla warfare. All very reflective of WWII. At one point in the original series an old Jewish man recalls having lived through the ordeal of the concentration camps many decades before and giving this as a reason that he has no choice but to join the resistance. The original series is cheesy but still worth the watch. Looking forward to the new series ...
